Clinical effects of Cefuroxime axetil in skin and soft tissue infection

Abstract
|
|
|
Cefuroxime axetil is a new broad spectrum, 2nd generation cephalosporin, which has extended spectrum of antibacterial activity against ?-lactamase, such as penicillinase and cephalosporin. Cefuroxime axetil has an unique pharmacokinetic profile that it produces high and prolonged serum as well as cerebrospinal fluid levels in human. Cefuroxime axetil also has low known-side effects. Clinical trials were carried out with Cefutoxirrie axetil tablets in 48 patients with bacterial infection of skin and soft tissue.
The results were as follows
1. No causative agent of the infections were found in 48 patients before and after administration of Cefuroxime axetil 750mg daily for 7 to 14 days.
2. Twenty two (91.67%)out of 24 patients with bacterial infection proved of soft tissue were treated with Cefuroxime axetil 750mg daily for two to three weeks.
3. Cefuroxime axetil was proved to be effective clinically in 68 patients out of 72 patients.
It was excellent in 25%, good in 44.44%, fair in 38.89%.
On the basis of these results, Cefuroxime axetil was supposed to be one of very effective antibiotics in skin and soft tissue infections.
